Hon’ble Justice Shri Surendra Tavade, Judicial Member, Lokayukta, Maharashtra State

Hon’ble Justice Shri Surendra Tavade is a retired Judge of the High Court of Judicature at Bombay. He holds a B.Com., LL.B. degree and practised as an Advocate at the City Civil and Sessions Court and Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court, Mumbai, from July 1984.

He joined the Judicial Service as a Civil Judge (Junior Division) and Judicial Magistrate First Class on 3rd September, 1990, and served at various places in Maharashtra. He was promoted as an Ad-hoc Additional District Judge in May, 2001 and subsequently as a District Judge in December, 2007. He served as Principal District Judge at Osmanabad and Sangli. He also served as Joint Secretary, Law and Judiciary Department, Mantralaya, Mumbai, and as Registrar, Original Side and Inspection, at the Bombay High Court. He subsequently served as Registrar General of the Bombay High Court.

He took an active interest in the welfare of Judges of the District Judiciary and had a long association with the Maharashtra State Judges’ Association, where he served as Secretary, Vice-President and President of the Association.

He was sworn in as an Additional Judge of the High Court of Judicature at Bombay on 5th December, 2019, and was confirmed as a Permanent Judge of the High Court on 1st June, 2021.

After his retirement from the High Court, he served as President of the Maharashtra State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Mumbai, from 23rd May, 2022 to 12th August, 2026.

He is appointed as Judicial Member, Lokayukta, Maharashtra State, on 14th August, 2026.
